Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde is seeking an inspiring and committed individual to become the next Chair of our Board of Trustees.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a respected local charity that has supported people living with acquired brain injury, their families and carers across Blackpool, Wyre and the Fylde Coast for almost 20 years.
As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership to our Board of Trustees, helping shape the future of the organisation, ensuring strong governance, and supporting our dedicated volunteers and staff as we continue to grow and develop our services.

About the role
The Chair works closely with fellow Trustees, the Charity Manager and volunteers to ensure the charity remains well governed, financially sustainable and focused on delivering the best possible support for local people affected by brain injury.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership to the Board of Trustees and ensuring effective governance.
- Chairing monthly Board meetings.
- Supporting and motivating Trustees, staff and volunteers.
- Helping shape the charity’s strategic direction and future development.
- Acting as an ambassador for Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde within the local community.
- Building positive relationships with partners, funders and stakeholders.
- Supporting fundraising opportunities and helping raise awareness of acquired brain injury across the Fylde Coast.
- Ensuring the charity complies with its legal and regulatory responsibilities.
What we’re looking for
We welcome applications from people who:
- Have leadership, management or governance experience (charity experience is helpful but not essential).
- Are passionate about improving the lives of people affected by acquired brain injury.
- Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Can inspire and support others while encouraging collaborative decision-making.
- Are committed to the values and aims of Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde.
- Have sound judgement, integrity and the ability to think strategically.
A full induction, training and ongoing support will be provided.
Time commitment
The role is voluntary and typically involves:
- Chairing one monthly Board meeting (approximately 2 hours).
- Occasional meetings with the Charity Manager and fellow Trustees.
- Attendance at charity events and activities where possible.
- Acting as an ambassador for the charity within the community.
The time commitment averages around 4 hours per month, with flexibility around your availability.
