The Newton Arms raises £2,900 for local people with brain injuries

Since taking over The Newton Arms in August 2018 Aaron and Tori have proudly been working with Headway Blackpool Wyre and Fylde to create awareness of our work and the services we provide. This was a partnership they started with Sam Ashcroft, Network Coordinator from Headway Blackpool in 2017 at the Highfield Sizzling Pub and Grill.

Community is the main corner stone of their business which Aaron and Tori strive to support throughout many causes, however since a friend of Aarons suffered a head injury a few years back and he witnessed first-hand the impact on family; Aaron said “If it wasn’t for the support that organisations like Headway Blackpool provide, individuals from the community with life changing disabilities would be left unsupported. The two flagship events that we run include the Family Fun Day for Brain Injury Awareness week in May (which will be its second year on May 9th) and the Family Fireworks Display which will be in its third year this November.”

Sam Ashcroft from Headway Blackpool explains “We’re a charity in Blackpool Wyre and Fylde who aim to provide information, support and social activities for people suffering from acquired brain injuries. We also aim to support carers, family and friends. Perhaps most importantly, we offer the chance to share experiences knowing that the group members understand some of the problems and difficulties that acquired brain injury brings. Without the support from the local community Headway Blackpool wouldn’t be able to offer the services we offer for free to our members.”

The Newton Arms  raised £2,900 over a 12 month period which will pay the annual room hire cost for Headway Blackpool’s  weekly drop-in service, along with the summer and Christmas outings.

This year The Newton Arms are aiming to raise funds to provide therapy sessions and subsidise the cost for a summer residential which will be beneficial for members in their long-term recovery they also hope to raise enough funds to provides a break for families.

A popular event at The Newton Arms – West Coast Cruisers have nominated Headway Blackpool as their charity during their monthly classics car show every third Thursday of the month.
